Dozens nabbed in child exploitation raids

A special police taskforce has carried out raids across the Gold Coast, charging 44 people with child exploitation offences.

Taskforce Orion police conducted the pilot training program with investigators from Gold Coast and Logan, with the objective of identifying, locating and prosecuting those who share child exploitation material online.

“Our focus is quite clearly on peer-to- peer or file sharing networks and those who are using these methods to share horrendous images,” Detective Superintendent Cheryl Scanlon said.

“Our work has also highlighted the lengths those committing these offences will go to in order to hide their activities not only from law enforcement, but their families.”

During the past week Taskforce Orion has carried out a series of raids across the Gold Coast, leading to the arrests.
