Dramatic scenes as Water Police save rogue houseboat with sleeping owner onboard

Scenes reminiscent of an action movie have unfolded on the Gold Coast this morning after a houseboat broke free of its mooring.

A member of the public alerted police just after 7.00am, after spotting the houseboat floating freely near Main Beach on a crash course towards the Sundale Bridge.

Water police rushed to the scene and managed to get on board the vessel just in time, stopping it from crashing into the bridge pylons and toppling over.
