Dramatic scenes as child is trapped under car in Sydney’s west

A child has suffered serious injuries after being run over by a car outside a child care centre in Sydney’s west.

Emergency services are still on the scene of the serious accident in Penrith.

Police said the boy was run over by a black 4WD outside a child care centre on High Street.

Investigators said the child appeared to have been walking across the driveway when he was struck.

Firefighters worked frantically to free the child who had become pinned underneath the vehicle.

The child, who police say was aged between eight and 12 years old, suffered a serious leg injury.

Footage uploaded to social media shows paramedics working on the boy at the scene.

He has since been rushed to the Westmead Children’s Hospital.

High Street remains closed.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
