Driver charged after Mercedes erupts into flames during ‘attempted burnout’

A man has been charged after his luxury car was destroyed by fire in Western Sydney.

Emergency services were called to Marks Street in Chester Hill on Sunday, after the Mercedes Benz AMG C63S coupe erupted into flames.

Despite desperate attempts by fire crews, the $160,000 vehicle was completely destroyed and surrounding road surface also damaged.

The driver and passenger, who managed to escape the car uninjured, told police that the vehicle had caught fire while being driven down the road.

However, investigators were later tipped off about a social media video, showing the Mercedes allegedly trying to attempt a burnout.

As a result, the 25-year-old owner and driver was yesterday issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice for drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving.

He is due to appear in Bankstown Local Court on 11 March.
