Driver charged after allegedly leaving man to die in horror crash

A YOUNG man has been arrested and charged with dangerous driving causing death after allegedly fleeing the scene of a fatal crash he’d allegedly caused north of Sydney.

Police said the 25-year-old was driving one of two utes which were involved in a collision with a Coles Pantech truck on the Pacific Motorway (M1) at Mount White around 4.45pm on Friday.

The young driver allegedly left the scene immediately after the crash, leaving the driver of the second ute, a 46-year-old man, to die at the scene.

The male driver of the Pantech truck escaped serious injury and was taken to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Following investigations by crash investigators, police tracked down the 25-year-old man and arrested him at a house in Wyong, 37km away.

He has since been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, fail to stop and render assistance – impact causing death and not give particulars to police.

The 25-year-old was refused bail and due to face Wyong Local Court today.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are continuing.
