Driver charged with threats of domestic violence after Gold Coast van ram

A teenager will front court tomorrow, charged with deprivation of liberty and threats of domestic violence, following a terrifying ordeal on the Gold Coast.

The 19-year-old was driving a white van through Nerang around 6pm on Saturday when his female passenger leapt out as they travelled on Pappas Way.

She flagged down a black van and got into the passenger seat.

But as the black van went to drive off, the white van allegedly rammed it from behind a number of times, forcing it into the gutter.

The 19-year-old then approached the other vehicle and allegedly pulled out a knife, forcing the woman out of the black van and back into the white van.

The vehicle was last seen on Lawrence Drive in Nerang.

Police were alerted to the incident and called on the public to help them track down the man and the white van.

Shortly before midnight, a member of the public called police and tipped them off to the location of the van in Paddington Drive, Carrara.

Police found the 19-year-old at the home and took him into custody.

The woman, 20, had not been injured during the incident.

The man has been charged with deprivation of liberty, threats of domestic violence offence and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
