Driver critical after crashing into car following medical episode

LATEST @ 1.00 PM | A Gold Coast motorist is fighting for life after suffering a suspected medial episode behind the wheel.

The man was travelling along Nerang Broadbeach Road in Broadbeach Waters just before midday when he rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection of Bermuda Street.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said the crash is believed to have been the result of a medical episode.

The driver was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

The occupants of the other vehicle, a woman and young child, managed to escape uninjured.

EARLIER @ 12.35 PM | Motorists travelling through Broadbeach Waters are being warned of delays following a two car crash.

It happened at the intersection of Nerang Broadbeach Road and Bermuda Street just before midday.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson told myGC a driver is believed to have suffered a medical episode, resulting in the vehicle crashing into another car.

At least three QAS crews are on scene, with the driver being treated by paramedics.

His condition is not known at this stage.

Fortunately, the occupants of the other vehicle managed to escape uninjured.

Lengthy delays are being experienced in the area, with motorists being urged to seek alternative routes.
