Driver critical after Tweed River crash

A woman is in a critical condition after the car she was travelling in crashed into the Tweed River last night.

The 57 year old female was a passenger in the vehicle which entered the water near Tweed Valley Way in Tumbulgum at around 10.15pm (NSW time) last night.

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was required to pull the woman from the submerged vehicle.


Local police, medical crews, and the VRA were also on the scene to assist in the rescue.

The woman was then transported to Gold Coast University Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
