Driver dies after collision with duck sends car into tree

A YOUNG woman has been killed in a horror crash in rural NSW after the car she was driving hit a duck on the road, spun out of control and slammed into a tree.

The accident happened near Tamworth, in the state’s northeast, around 6.40am on Sunday.

Police say the young woman was driving south on Werris Creek Road in her Hyundai hatch when she hit a duck.

Investigations suggest the collision with the animal caused the woman to lose control of her car.

The vehicle then left the road and collided with a tree around 2km south of the small village of Duri.

A number of witnesses tried desperately to revive the 19-year-old driver, but it was too late.

The young woman’s injuries were too severe and she could not be saved.

Police said the woman was pronounced dead before she could be transported to hospital.

Werris Creek Road was closed in both directions for several hours while the scene was examined.
