Driver escapes injury after wheelie bin smashes through car windscreen

A MOTORIST was lucky to escape injury when one of four wheelie bins that were tossed off a hill smashed through the windscreen of his car in Sydney’s north-west.

Police said the 63-year-old man was driving along Lane Cove Road at Ryde when a garbage bin landed on his Toyota Prado around 1am this morning.

The bin smashed through the front windscreen, narrowly missing the man behind the wheel.

Investigators said the wheelie bin was thrown from an 8m raised embankment and onto the Lane Cove Road off-ramp at the intersection with Victoria Road.

Police said three other bins were tossed off the hill. Fortunately, no other vehicles were struck and no one was injured.

As investigations continue, police are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
