Driver fighting for life after Yatala road rage attack

A man has been left with serious head injuries, after an apparent road rage attack on the side of the M1 on the northern Gold Coast.

The man was driving a Subaru Forester station wagon, when he appears to have pulled over to the shoulder of the northbound lanes, between Pimpama and Yatala, just after 9.30pm on Saturday.

It’s believed he became involved in a fight with occupants of a white van or mini bus, which may have been carrying up to 13 people.

The man suffered serious head injuries from being assaulted with an unknown weapon by the members of the van, who took off soon after.

Emergency services arrived around 9.45pm to find the 29-year-old man with serious head injuries and he was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

He remains in a critical condition with life threatening injuries.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or dash cam footage taken in the vicinity of the M1 between Pimpama and Yatala at the time of the incident to contact them.
