Man fined $1000 for watching porn on mobile phone while driving

A MAN has been fined more than $1000 and hit with four demerit points after he was allegedly caught watching porn on his mobile phone while driving down a busy highway in Victoria.

The man from the West Gippsland area was observed driving along the Monash Freeway at around 5.30am on 23 November with his phone mounted to the dashboard of his car.

Due to the darkness around the vehicle, an off-duty police officer driving next to the man’s vehicle could see what the phone was broadcasting and took down the details of the driver.

Police caught up with the 50-year-old man yesterday afternoon, during which the man made full admissions to investigators.

The interviewing officer, Sergeant James Robbins said it was an interesting case.

“After 17 years in this job I thought I had seen it all,” Sgt Robbins said. “This sort of behaviour simply isn’t acceptable when behind the wheel.”

“We want everyone to be sitting at Christmas lunch this year and silly behaviour like this is all too often means there will be an empty seat and another life lost”.

The man received two infringement notices – one for using a mobile phone while driving ($466 and four demerit points) and one for offensive behaviour ($622).
