Driver flees after crash, leaves behind critically injured passenger

A man has fled the scene of a serious traffic crash in Sydney, leaving a critically injured woman trapped in the passenger of his car.

Police said a Mitsubishi EVO had collided with a Honda SUV on Warwick Street in Punchbowl just before 11am this morning.

The male driver of the white Mitsubishi was able to free himself from the wreck.

Police said he fled the scene on foot before they arrived, leaving behind his female passenger who had sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash.

She was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to Liverpool Hospital where she remains this afternoon in critical condition.

The driver of the dark-coloured Honda SUV, a 45-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries.

She was taken to Bankstown Hospital for treatment.

As investigations into the cause of the crash continue, police are urging anyone with any information to come forward.
