Driver in serious condition after tailgater assault, Gold Coast

Investigations are underway after a man was seriously assaulted by a driver who was tailgating him in Coomera yesterday afternoon.

The 53-year-old man was travelling with a 64-year-old female passenger around 4.00pm, when he pulled over his car along Old Pacific Highway, due to the behaviour of the driver in a blue car behind him.

The blue car also pulled over, before the driver got out of the car and approached the man and woman with an implement.

He allegedly started hitting and cracking the windscreen, until the 53-year-old got out of the car.

The 53-year-old was then punched several times and knocked to the ground.

A passing motorist stopped to help, before the alleged attacked fled.

Police saw a passing patrol vehicle then came across the unconscious man and rendered first aid.

The victim was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

Police are now calling on any witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward immediately.
