Driver killed in horror head-on crash with truck in southeast Queensland

A MAN has died after his car was ripped apart in a horrifying head-on crash with a truck northwest of Brisbane.

The two vehicles collided on the Brisbane Valley Highway, two kilometres north of Esk, around 3:15am on Friday.

The force of the collision was so great, the car was ripped apart and the truck’s cabin crushed on impact.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 40s, was killed instantly.

His vehicle was obliterated in the crash and strewn across the highway in pieces.

The truck ploughed through a fence before coming to a stop in a paddock.

Police said the 24-year-old man behind the wheel sustained non-life threatening injuries.

He was transported by ambulance to Ipswich Hospital for treatment.

The Brisbane Valley Highway remained closed at 11:30am. Police warned it would remain closed until equipment was brought in to retrieve the wrecked truck from the paddock.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
