Driver killed in crash with semi-trailer

AN elderly man has died after the car he was driving collided with a semi-trailer near Jimboomba.

The two vehicles came to grief where the Mount Lindsay Highway meets Stockleigh Road at South Maclean around 10.35am on Tuesday.

The 81-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries and died at the scene, police said.

The elderly man was the only person travelling in the car at the time.

The 46-year-old man behind the wheel of the truck escaped the collision unharmed.

The Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

It’s the second fatal crash in the area in as many days.

News of Tuesday’s fatality comes just hours after police confirmed a woman who was critically injured in a crash at nearby Tamborine on Monday had died in hospital. Read more here.
