Driver killed in single-vehicle crash

A MAN has been killed in a single-vehicle crash on the New South Wales north coast.

It happened about 10km west of Byron Bay just after 3am on Sunday.

Police said a Volkswagen Golf smashed a tree on Hinterland Way at St Helena.

It’s understood passing motorists came across the crash and raised the alarm.

The driver, a 69-year-old man, was found unresponsive at the scene.

Sadly, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead before he could be taken to hospital.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and will prepare a report for the Coroner.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident, or has any information or dash cam footage that could assist police with their investigation is urged to come forward.
