Driver killed in two car crash while trying to perform u-turn on NSW highway

A MAN has been killed in a horror two-car crash on a highway along the NSW-Victoria border.

The accident happened on the Silver City Highway outside the town of Coomealla, near Mildura, last night.

Police said it was around 7.30pm when a Holden Commodore sedan ploughed into a Ford Falcon as it attempted to perform a u-turn on the highway near Tallawalla Road.

Four people travelling in the Ford and the driver of the Commodore were all injured and taken to Mildura Base Hospital for treatment.

Sadly, the 55-year-old driver of the Ford suffered life-threatening injuries and could not be saved.

His three passengers were treated at the hospital for minor injuries while the 77-year-old driver of the Commodore sustained a number of fractured ribs in the collision.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and police will prepare a brief report for the information of the Coroner.
