Driver rescued from creek after careering off M1

A driver has had to be rescued after careering off the Pacific Motorway before his vehicle ended up submerged upside down in water.

Emergency services were called to the motorway at Chinderah after a vehicle left the road near the weighbridge around 12.50am this morning.

But paramedics were initially unable to locate the vehicle.

The driver continued to call Triple-Zero while trapped in the submerged vehicle to try and guide emergency services to his location.

Crews continued searching the motorway and local creeks and rivers before eventually coming across the upturned vehicle.

Crews from NSW Police, Fire & Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance launched a rescue before managing to free the driver who was later transported to hospital.
