Driver spends three hours trapped in crash wreck with life threatening injuries

A GARBAGE truck driver is fighting for his life in hospital following a multi-vehicle crash in Sydney.

The collision occurred on The River Road at Revesby Heights just before 7.45am on Thursday.

Police said two southbound vehicles collided, with the impact sending one of the cars hurtling into a garbage truck causing it to leave the road and slam into a tree on an embankment.

The man behind the wheel of the truck sustained life-threatening injuries and was trapped in the wreckage for almost three hours.

After being cut out of his crushed cabin, the man was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

Two women aged in their 40s who were driving the other vehicles escaped the crash uninjured.

They have since been taken to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the multi-vehicle crash.
