Driver has sports car impounded after overtaking unmarked police at 162km/h

A MAN has had his sports car impounded after allegedly overtaking an undercover police car at more than 160 kilometres per hour in Melbourne’s north.

The detectives were driving along Bell Street, Preston, in an unmarked car when the man flew past them in the Toyota 86 Coupe around 11.30pm on Wednesday.

The officers allegedly clocked the sports car travelling at 162 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone.

The quick-thinking detectives took off after the high-performance vehicle and intercepted it a short time later.

The driver, a 34-year-old Doncaster man, was ordered to surrender his car to police and was charged with conduct endangering life and possess a drug of dependence.

He was due to appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court later today.
