Driver suffers heart attack and loses control on suburban Gold Coast street

THERE were dramatic scenes at Southport this afternoon when a woman lost control of her car after suffering a heart attack at the wheel. 

Residents got a quite a shock when the woman’s out-of-control car tore down their suburban street, mounted a roundabout and smashed into a light pole on the corner of High and Scarborough Streets around 2pm.

It’s understood the female driver of unknown age suffered a heart attack at the wheel.


She was transported by ambulance to hospital in an unknown condition.

Meanwhile, the impact of the crash sent the street light toppling onto power lines.

The road was closed to traffic while emergency services and energex crews worked to clear the scene.

No one else was injured in the crash.
