Driver trapped by live wires, power cut after Gold Coast crash

DOZENS of homes and businesses have lost power after a truck smashed into a power pole and brought down live wires on the southern Gold Coast.

The accident is believed to have occurred on Bourton Road at Merrimac just before 2.20pm.

It’s understood live power lines have fallen onto the truck, trapping the driver inside his cabin. Incredibly, he is believed to have escaped serious injury.

The driver will remain inside the truck until the wires are safely removed.

Queensland Ambulance said it appeared to be a single-vehicle crash, with no other vehicles involved.

As a result of the crash, 140 homes and businesses have lost power on Bourton Road, Angelia Lane, Highfield Drive, Scotia Place, and Macbeth and Penda Courts.

Emergency services are on the scene, and Energex crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible.

It is not known when services will be fully restored.
