Drug-affected driver had unrestrained child in car, police say

A WOMAN has been fined and hit with three demerit points after she was allegedly caught driving around with an unrestrained child in her car, allegedly while high on drugs in Sydney’s west

The 26-year-old was stopped by police for a random breath test on the Great Western Highway at Werrington about 12.45pm on Monday.

As officers approached the woman’s Holden Captiva, they allegedly spotted a five-year-old boy sitting in the back seat without a seatbelt on.

Police said the 26-year-old passed a roadside breath test but tested positive for the presence of an illicit drug in her system.

She was prohibited from driving for 24 hours while samples were sent to the lab for further testing to determine if legal action will be taken.

The woman was also fined $337 and hit with 3 demerit points for driving with an unrestrained child.

Police notified the Department of Family and Community Services and said the five-year-old boy was placed in the care of a ‘close family friend’.
