Drunk driver caught doing 198km/h in NSW

A DRUNK man has been caught hooning at speeds close to 200km/h through an 80 zone in Sydney’s south overnight.

Botany Bay Highway Patrol spotted the speeding black Audi on Southern Cross Drive, Eastlakes around 11.55pm on Sunday.

The driver – a 53-year-old man from Bardwell Valley – was allegedly detected travelling at 198km/h in the 80km/h speed zone.


After failing a roadside breath-test, the man was arrested and taken to Mascot Police Station where a subsequent breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.102.

He’s been charged with driving at a speed dangerous to the public, exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, and mid-range drink driving.

His license was immediately suspended and he is due to front Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday November 19.
