Drunk driver charged after allegedly smashing into parked cars

A man has been charged with a string of offences after allegedly crashing into two parked cars in Main Beach while almost three times the legal limit.

Police were called to Sea World Drive just before 9.15 on Tuesday night after a Holden Crewman had crashed into a panel van and a Toyota Corolla.

Both vehicles had suffered damage in the crash.


The driver of the Holden had fled the scene when officers arrived but was tracked down by the Dog Squad at a nearby bus stop a short time later.

The man was subjected to a roadside breath test where he blew 0.175.

The 26-year-old from Burleigh Heads been charged with driving under the influence, drive without due care and attention, possession of a dangerous drug, fail to comply with duties of driver involved in a crash.

The man will front Southport Magistrates Court on March 29.
