Drunk driver leads police on high-speed 200km-long chase in NSW

A DRUNK driver has led police on a dramatic high-speed 200km-long car chase from Port Stephens to Sydney.

Highway Patrol officers spotted the man’s Mercedes travelling at speeds in excess of 200 kilometres per hour near Warnervale, on the state’s Central Coast, on Saturday.

The 34-year-old driver stopped at a Caltex service station where he dropped off a male passenger before continuing down the M1 towards Sydney.

The vehicle was eventually stopped at Wahroonga, in the city’s north.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Hornsby Police Station where police he returned a positive mid-range breath test.

He has since been charged with a number of serious offences and was refused bail on Parramatta court today.
