Drunk man charged over alleged assault of female paramedic

A man will front court today charged over the assault of a paramedic that was trying to help him.

Both paramedics and police were called to the intersection of Campbell Street and Bourke Street in Surry Hills around 7.30pm last night, following reports of an intoxicated man.

The police officers found the 37-year-old man, before paramedics were sought to treat him.

Police say the intoxicated man then became belligerent and aggressive towards them, and walked towards one of the paramedics and punched her on the left forearm.

The 25-year-old female paramedic wasn’t injured in the incident.

The man was taken immediately to the Surry Hills Police Station where he was later charged with assault.

He was refused bail and will front Central Local Court today.
