Duo on assault, torture charges after man bashed in Qld home

TWO men have been arrested and charged with assault and torture after a 33-year-old man was allegedly brutally bashed at a house in Townsville.

Police said the two men confronted the victim at his Kenealy Street home in Aitkenvale around 1am on Monday 8 August.

It’s alleged the duo repeatedly punched the 33-year-old man in the face and threatened to inflict further serious harm.

Police said the two men then used a baseball bat to smash up the house before fleeing the scene with a stash of jewellery.

The 33-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening head and facial injuries.

He was transported to Townsville Hospital for treatment.

A 20-year-old Cranbrook man and a 28-year-old Douglas were arrested over the incident.

They have both since been charged with one count each of torture, assault occasioning bodily harm, deprivation of liberty, robbery, wilful damage and enter dwelling with intent.

The 20-year-old is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow while the 28-year-old has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in the same court on September 26 after briefing appearing yesterday.
