Duo injured after driving ute into Tweed River to escape Police

Two men have ended up in hospital after a ute plunged into the Tweed River on Friday night.

The 21-year-old driver suffered minor cuts to his right knee and possible fractures. While his passenger, 22, has a suspected broken hand.

But their woes won’t end there, with Police waiting to speak with them following their release from hospital.

Tweed Police say officers on patrol in Coral Street began following the Toyota Hilux after they noticed it driving erratically, around 10pm.

They indicated for it to pull over, but it drove off and out of sight.

Police and other emergency services were then directed to the river by people from a nearby building who saw the submerged vehicle.

The men were treated on the scene before taken to hospital.

Charges are yet to be laid.
