Duo on the run shoot man and steal his car in south Sydney

A MAN has been shot in the leg during a frightening carjacking in south Sydney.

It all begin early on Tuesday evening when a stolen Mercedes Benz was involved in a crash with an Audi on the Belmore Road off-ramp of the M5.

The car kept on driving, crashing through a fence and into Rotary Park.

The occupants, a man and a woman, then ran off and where chased by witnesses.

The pair then approached Kia Rio parked in nearby Jindalee Place and threatened the driver with a firearm.

He refused to get out before and was shot in the leg before being pushed out of the vehicle. The man and woman then drove off.

The 26-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition. His injuries are not considered life threatening.

Detectives from Campsie Police Area Command have commenced an investigation into the incident.
