Duo under Police guard after crashing an allegedly stolen car
A joyride has come to a sudden stop, after a stolen car smashed in to a tree near Newcastle early Monday morning.
It’s alleged the two men broke into a house on Ocean View Parade in Charlestown around 1.30am, before taking a wallet and keys to a Hyundai station wagon.
They then drove off in the vehicle.
A short time later, police were called to the intersection of City Road and Fernleigh Loop, Highfields, where the stolen Hyundai had hit a tree.
The driver, a 26-year-old man, was trapped for a short time, before being treated by paramedics for serious head injuries.
He was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Police found a 17-year-old man a short distance from the scene with multiple injuries.
He was also taken to John Hunter Hospital, in a stable condition.
The pair remain under police guard and are expected to be charged.
