Duress alarms to be installed in Gold Coast ambulances

In a bid to combat violence against paramedics, a new safety alarm system is set to be installed in Gold Coast ambulances.

The ABC reports that the multi-million duress systems will feature a hidden camera that will feed footage from the back of the ambulance to the driver.

Queensland Ambulance Service assistant commissioner Dee Taylor-Dutton told the ABC that the initiative will provide further assistance to paramedics in order to keep them safe.

“We’ll be able to very quickly see what’s happening enough to be able to alert our communications system that police are required,” she said.
