A dying dog’s been joined by hundreds of canines on his final ‘walkies’

This is the heart warming story of a man who loved his elderly dog so much that he reached out on social media to see if anyone would join them on their final walk.

US resident Mark Woods launched a Facebook event inviting locals to join him at Porth Beach in Newquay, Cornwall on November 12, after he decided to put his 18-year-old whippet down.

Mr Woods wrapped his beloved Walnut in a blanket and headed down to the beach where they were greeted by hundreds of well-wishers.

Hours later Walnut died surrounded by his human family and three other whippets, “Charlie”, “Monty” and “Nelson”.

Mr Woods posted on Facebook that “he went very quickly and in my arms”.

“Thank you to the hundreds of people that (sic) attended this walk this morning and to all those that had their own walks with their beloved pets at 9.30am all around the world.

“I also want to thank the wonderful people of Newquay for their support which I will never forget as long as I live. God bless you all.”
