Pet cats perish in “suspicious” Gold Coast unit fire

LATEST @ 1.15 PM | Police are appealing for anyone who saw any suspicious activity around Miami in the early hours of this morning to come forward.

It comes after a duplex along Chainey Avenue erupted into flames between 4.30am and 5.15am.

A number of fire crews rushed to the scene and thankfully managed to contain the flames to the one duplex, which was completely destroyed.

While no one was injured, police have confirmed that, sadly, two pets cats perished in the blaze.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV to contact them.

Investigations into what sparked the fire are continuing.

EARLIER @ 6.00 AM | Police are investigating an early morning unit fire in Miami.

It broke out at a private residence along Chainey Avenue around 5.00 am.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, where firefighters made light work of extinguishing the blaze.

Luckily, all people who were inside the residence were able to get out.

Paramedics remain on scene, assessing a man for smoke inhalation.

Police have confirmed they’re investigating whether or not the fire is suspicious.
