Early morning smash cuts power in Southport

Almost 300 homes and businesses in Southport have woken to no power after a car smashed into a power pole.

The collision happened at the intersection of High Street and Queen Street just after 5.30am on Tuesday.

A Queensland Police spokesperson told myGC a number of powerlines have been affected as a result of the crash.

At the time of writing (6.30am) 252 properties in Southport were in the dark, with Energex confirming crews are working to get power back up as soon as possible.

The driver of the vehicle was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries.

They have since been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
