Early morning smash sparks mass Gold Coast power outage
Police are investigating a crash in Southport this morning, that knocked out power to thousands of homes in the suburb.
A ute is understood to have lost control in the wet before ploughing into a power pole along Marine Parade.
The accident happened near the intersection with North Street around 3.45am.
As a result, more than 2,200 homes in Southport and Labrador were left without power, which is slowly being restored.
At the time of writing, there were still around 220 properties in Southport blacked out.
Two people, including one with a leg injury, were treated at the scene by paramedics.
The pair have since been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in stable conditions.
