Early wake up call after ute ploughs into Gold Coast shop

Gold Coast residents have been woken by a loud bang in the middle of the night after a ute crashed through the front of a building in Southport.

The vehicle, a silver Toyota Hilux, is understood to have lost control while travelling along Harvest Court around 1.30am, before slamming into an auto electrics business on Egerton Street.

Several emergency crews including police, firies and paramedics rushed to the scene.

In a photo obtained by myGC, the ute can be seen up on two wheels after smashing through the front glass windows.

Police say the two male occupants fled the scene shortly after the crash before the driver, a 20-year-old man from Labrador, later returned to the crash site and spoke with officers.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, or may have relevant dashcam footage around the time of the incident, to come forward.

Sadly, it’s understood at least two businesses have sustained significant damage as a result of the early morning smash.

Investigations are continuing.

Bloody idiots. As usual, they were driving too fast.
