Echidna kidnapper to appear in Southport court today

A MAN accused of stealing ‘Piggie’ the Echinda from a wildlife park on the Gold Coast is due to face court today.

Luke Royes is one of three men accused of stealing the iconic Echidna from its enclosure at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on August 1.

The 25-year-old is set to appear in Southport Magistrates court today charged with animal cruelty and receiving tainted property.

The trio were busted when one of the men uploaded a selfie with the echidna to social media.
