Eckstein withdraws and Minogue takes Coolangatta Gold victory

RETIRING Ironman Josh Minogue has taken out the gruelling Coolangatta Gold on Sunday.

Most people had their money on Caine Eckstein to take out his sixth Coolangatta Gold title, but injury struck the star in the final stages forcing him to pull out.

Eckstein withdrew nearing the end of the 41.5km race with what’s believed to be a bicep tear he sustained while pulling off a world record pull-up attempt in New York last month.

With Eckstein out of contention, Minogue finished his career in fairytale fashion with a maiden victory yesterday.
