Two people, believed to be an elderly couple, have been found dead inside a southern Sydney home after fire tore through the building overnight.
Emergency crews were called to the Penhurst home around 3.30am on Monday, following reports the weatherboard house was well alight.
Police said two people were initially unaccounted for after the fire and were reported missing.

Officers have since confirmed the remains of the two people have been found inside.
Two men escaped the building and were taken to St George Hospital where they are being treated for shock and smoke inhalation.
A post-mortem examination will now be conducted to identify the remains and investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
