Elderly lady has cash savings, engagement ring stolen in home invasion

AN 82-year-old woman has had her engagement ring stolen in a terrifying home invasion in outback NSW.

The elderly woman was asleep in her Wilson Street home at Brewarrina, in the state’s northwest, on Tuesday night when she heard a window smash about 10pm.

Police said a masked man smashed his way into the elderly woman’s home and made his way into her bedroom where he demanded that she hand over her valuables.

The man fled the scene with a stash of cash and the woman’s engagement ring, eternity ring, and a signet ring.

Although the 82-year-old woman was not physically injured in the invasion, she was left deeply shaken and is now being cared for by friends.

Police have released a description of the man believed to be responsible for the attack in the hope someone may have seen him.

He is described as being 20 to 30 years of age, with a tall build and possibly of Caucasian appearance.

At the time of the invasion, his face was partly covered and he was wearing a grey jumper and a black baseball cap.

Detectives are urging anyone with information or anyone who is offered rings for sale to contact Brewarrina Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
