Elderly man assaulted during car jacking in Sydney’s south west

An elderly man has been pushed over during a violent car jacking in Bankstown.

On Monday the 86-year-old was trying to get into his car on Marion Street at Condell Park when a younger man allegedly grabbed his keys and tried to force his way into the driver’s seat.

His victim was reportedly pushed over as the 42-year-olf drove off in his car.

A couple of hours later a New South Wales Police Dog Squad officer saw the stolen vehicle travelling north on Johnstone Road, Bass Hill.

He managed to convince the driver to pull over and a 42-year-old was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

Police say the man became aggressive when they told him what he was being charged with and even shoved one of the officers in the chest.

The man was charged with aggravated robbery causing actual bodily harm, drive while disqualified, drive while disqualified, have possession of cutting weapon upon apprehension and assault police.

He was refused bail and will appear in Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday.
