AN autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of an elderly man’s death after his body was found in a creek near Tweed Heads this morning.
Police said the 78-year-old was found unconscious in Cudgen Creek at Kingscliff just after 11am.
It’s understood bystanders pulled the elderly man from the water and tried resuscitating him while waiting for an ambulance, but he was unable to be revived.

There are reports that the man may have died after suffering a medical episode in the water.
Police said a post-mortem examination will need to be carried out to determine the man’s cause of death.
Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District are investigating the incident and will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
