A man has been charged after allegedly dragging an elderly man several metres along the ground while trying to steal his car.
Police report that around 6.00pm last night, an 80-year-old man was parked in the driveway of a club at Scarborough Street with the vehicle running while he tried to assist his elderly wife into the passenger side.
It’s then alleged that a 56-year-old man approached the vehicle where a scuffle occurred with the elderly man.

The man then got into the car and tried to drive away, while the elderly man tried to stop him.
Police say the elderly man was dragged several metres before falling to the road, causing him to suffer a serious head injury.
He’s since been hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries.
Officers were able to track down the vehicle about 45 minutes later after it rear ended another car in North Street.
It then pulled over in Fig Tree Lane, where police arrested the 56-year-old man.
He’s since been charged with robbery with violence, possess relevant substance, possess utensil and disqualified driving, and will front Southport court today.
