Elderly man hospitalised after hammer attack

A MAN in his 70s has been attacked by a man wielding a hammer at a block of units in Brisbane.

Police were called to the St Pauls Terrace units in Spring Hill around 12.10am on Wednesday.

Officers rushed to the units and arrived to find a 74-year-old man who had been attacked with the tool.

He was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with wounds to his arm and back.

The dog squad was called in to help officers track down the offender, who fled the scene on foot.

The hammer was found dumped in Union Street while clothes were found on St Pauls Terrace.

Officers saturated the surrounding streets in an effort to find the man, but he could not be found.
