Elderly man missing for hours after crashing motorbike in Gold Coast hinterland

An elderly man is in a serious condition after crashing down an embankment and disappearing, prompting a major search in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

The 75-year-old was out riding with his motorcycle club in the Springbrook area, however, he did not return to his home in Brisbane when expected yesterday afternoon.

Family members were quick to contact members of the riding club before both groups realised the man was missing.

A major search was launched around 7.30 pm along Mudgeeraba Springbrook Road where the man was last seen.

He was then finally found around 12.30 am today about 20 metres down an embankment in thick scrub along Gold Coast Springbrook Road.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called in to winch the man back to the road.

He suffered numerous fractures and significant lower leg injuries and was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police are investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash.

At this point, it’s not clear how long the man was lying in the scrub.

Disgusting. Someone is accountable for not even noticing the poor man missing.
