AN ELDERLY man has been rushed to hospital after being shot in a suspected home invasion at Tweed Heads.
The 76-year-old man was shot in the leg after catching an intruder rummaging through the garage of his Piggabeen Road home at Tweed Heads West about 4.45am on Saturday.
Police said the man opened the garage door and was shot in the leg by an unknown person, who then left the scene.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before transporting him to the Gold Coast University Hospital.
He remains there this afternoon, in a serious but stable condition.
A 73-year-old woman, believed to be the man’s wife, was home at the time but was not injured, police said.
Detectives from the Tweed/Byron Police District have set up a dedicated Strike Force, code-named Dural, to investigate the incident.
