Elderly man in spinal unit after Gold Coast dumping
A man in his 70’s is being treated in the spinal unit of a Brisbane hospital after being dumped on a sandbank at Currumbin beach this morning.
Lifeguards pulled the man from the water at around 8:30am.
He was taken to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital which specialises in spinal injuries.
Chief Lifeguard Warren Young said he was hit by a wave as it broke on a sandbank.
“There was very small surf on a shallow sandbank and it looks like he may have gone forward onto the sandbank,” he said.
“He suffered a spinal injury and our lifeguards stabilised him until paramedics arrived.”
