Elderly woman battered and bruised after brazen midday mugging in Brisbane

AN elderly woman has been left battered and bruised after she was dragged out of her car and robbed in a brazen midday attack at a shopping centre in Brisbane.

It’s understood the woman was sitting in the driver’s seat of her car which was parked in the car park of a shopping centre at Aspley when she was targeted around 12.15pm on Wednesday.

Police say a man armed with a knife approached the woman in the car park on the corner of Gayford Street and Albany Creek Road and demanded that she hand over her handbag.

The woman, however, refused to comply with the man’s demands, at which time she was allegedly dragged from her vehicle and had her purse pinched.

She sustained injuries to her face and left arm during the ambush and was treated by paramedics before being taken to the Prince Charles Hospital for treatment.

Her attacker initially fled the scene on foot before police arrived. Police have since confirmed, however, that a man has been taken into custody and is assisting detectives with their investigation.

It remains unclear whether this man is, in fact, the woman’s attacker or a witness.
